Twitter stops supporting this generation of iPhone, a death foretold?

After Apple suspended its sale in September 2016, the iPhone 6 Plus arrived in the company’s list of vintage products in mid-February. Now Twitter seems to put another nail in the coffin of this device that revolutionized the history of Cupertino.

And it is that from now on, Twitter has stopped supporting devices that run iOS 13, just the operating system that gave life to the iPhone 6.

This decision by Twitter is for many the last nail for a device that has had a death announced from its own creative house.

The truth is that this is nothing minor. We are talking about the first iPhone that Apple launched with those users looking for larger screens in mind. Thus, the bet was 5.5 inches, a now absurd measure, but at that time it was a milestone.

The smartphone, launched in 2014, represented for Apple more than just a new generation of iPhone. Actually for the company now led by Tim Cook, it was one of its most lucrative devices, which managed to break records.

What is happening with Twitter now is nothing more than an indication that adds to a trend already marked by Apple. iPhone 6 is the last iPhone not to receive OS updates since 2020.

Recently, it was announced that iPhone 6s and later can be upgraded to iOS 15 if owned. The iPhone 6 did not make this list even though it was released at the same time as the 6s version.

As stated by Apple Insider: “Apple prides itself on being a device manufacturer that creates quality products that can last for years of use, and remaining iPhone 6 owners are testament to that. However, with each new operating system, a device will lose its shine and begin to show signs of aging.”
