Use your mobile on the plane with peace of mind
The simple fact of having Internet on a plane implies being able to do use of the vast majority of features from your phone. You will no longer need to pre-download the episodes of the series you are watching or wait until you are on the ground to chat with your friends. Soon, all this will be a reality after the decision of the European Commission, where the EU commissioner states the following:
“5G will enable innovative services for people and growth opportunities for European businesses. The sky is no longer the limit when it comes to the possibilities offered by super-fast, high-capacity connectivity.”
For the moment, the government body has not granted details on when it could come into force 5G service for air passengers. Likewise, this is very positive news considering that users have always been urged to establish Airplane Mode in their terminal.
Although it is true that, in recent years, measures in this regard have been relaxed. In fact, it was in 2014 when the European Union Aviation Safety Agency updated the guidelines to point out that airlines need not require the use of this option to the passengers.
On the other hand, the International Air Transport Association explained to The Telegraph that 5G technology will not generate security problems in flights, since it uses different wave frequencies from those used in the communications cabin. Mobile phones use the 5 GHz spectrum, while airplanes use the 4.2 GHz – 4.4 GHz range.
