Véligo long-term rental electric bikes now benefit from an insurance offer provided by Sharelock. One formula has been designed for e-bikes, another for cargo bikes.
Deployed during 2019, the Véligo electric bikes were a dazzling success. So much so that Île-de-France Mobilités, which oversees this initiative, quickly had to add 5,000 models to its fleet which currently consists of VAEs and three electric cargo ships – a longtail, a two-wheeler and a three-wheeler.
As a reminder, Véligo electric bikes are available for long-term rental (6 months renewable for 3 months), in exchange for a monthly subscription. Their objective ? Get you started and make you want to buy an e-bike or a muscle bike after your period of use.
On this Wednesday, September 13, Véligo is arming itself with an additional offer in the form of insurance. This service is in fact offered and managed by Sharelock, an electric bike insurance specialist which is also known for its connected urban locks.
In total, two formulas – VAE and cargo – themselves made up of two offers are available.
The “Electric Bike” formula is entitled to the “Theft & Vandalism” offer, which covers the theft of the bicycle with the battery (deductible of 450 euros all the same), the theft of the bicycle without the battery (200 euros deductible) and vandalism/partial theft (deductible of 50 euros). However, no excess will be required in the event of a validated photo of the parked bicycle.
On the official website, Véligo explains: “ Thanks to the Sharelock application, you can take a photo of your bike when it is parked. If your bike is securely attached to a fixed point with a lock and without a battery, you will not have any excess payable. “. It’s exactly the same photographic process as with its connected padlocks. Note that with the famous photo captured, no waiting period is applied.
Not everyone will be able to benefit from it
Battery theft only and accidental breakage are not covered.Conversely of the “Theft & Vandalism & Breakage” offer, which covers all of the aforementioned damages. To this must be added a 200 euro deductible for battery theft alone, and a 50 euro deductible for accidental breakage.
The two offers are respectively billed at 13.90 euros and 19.90 euros per month.

For cargo bikes, a “Flight” offer is available at 16.90 euros per month. It only covers the theft of the bicycle with the battery (450 euros excess) and the theft of the bicycle without the battery (200 euros excess). The little tip relating to the validated photo is also relevant here.
The Theft & Vandalism & Breakage offer covers all damages, with deductibles similar to other plans, all for 19.99 euros per month.

Véligo clearly indicates that “insurance is not compulsory and remains optional“, but in the event of an uncovered bicycle, the damage remains 100% your responsibility. Furthermore, and this is a shame, “it is not possible to take out insurance after subscribing to the service“. In other words, only new subscribers can benefit from it.
