Vodafone is the only operator to lose fixed broadband lines at the start of 2023

With the official data from the CNMC corresponding to the month of January 2023 in hand, we begin the review where we will analyze the monthly results of the transfer of fixed internet lines between operators, to delve into a more global vision of each telco, including data for the month, the annual accumulated and the evolution compared to previous years.

Of the rest of the contenders, the Grupo MásMóvil achieved 13,400 linesin line with the average for the previous year, while independent operators such as Digi, Avatel or Adamothey were close to repeating another historic record by capturing more than 35,000 lines.


With respect to the month of January of previous years, only MásMóvil worsened its trendVodafone maintains it stable and Orange, Movistar and the set of independent operators improved more notably.

Evolution of Fixed Broadband in January between 2020 and 2023

The month ended with 1,966,315 lines of NEBA local. The NEBA indirect access service (FTTH and copper) accumulated 858,243 lines, of which 831,126 are fiber.

Regarding the evolution of the market shares reached in the month of January compared to the last four years, Movistar has lost 5.74 percentage points, Orange would have lost 3.62 points, and Vodafone lost 3.92 points. These figures place Orange at 1.93 million broadband lines behind Movistar, while Orange and Vodafone are separated by 898,000 lines, and MásMóvil is separated from Vodafone by 210,000 lines.
