Vodafone continues to bet on renewing its network and is already testing its FWA 5G connection of up to 1 Gbps in some cities in Spain. An alternative to bring the network of networks to more depopulated areas than is based on the use of 3GPP architectures and common mobile components.
Specific, There will be 8 cities that will be able to benefit from the start Vodafone Home 5G. Eight locations where it will no longer be necessary to have traditional FTTH fiber or through HFC cable to access a high-speed connection.
New router and new connection
The red operator continues to deploy its network but leaving aside the use of HFC cable, inherited from Ono after its purchase, or even not betting on its own FTTH fiber, where benefits from Movistar’s indirect fiber.
Faced with these options, Vodafone is committed to bringing Internet to homes taking advantage of the infrastructure of its mobile network and it does so with FWAan acronym for Fixed Wireless Access.
As we have already commented and as they say in Broadband, it is a new type of connection in which take advantage of mobile frequencies to link from the nearest antenna with a 5G router installed at the customer’s home. In this way they manage to simulate a classic fiber connection.
FWA makes use of the high-throughput bandwidth on the n78 3.6 GHz frequency and the MIMO system integrated into the antennas to use the full potential of the connections to provide coverage to wireless clients.without affecting the performance of other users of the mobile network.
Vodafone Hogar 5G will use for its FWA service a new router of the company that responds to the name of GigaCube. With this model, Vodafone ensures that gigabit speeds of the mobile network can be achieved. The signal can be distributed to the rest of the house by Wi-Fi 6 or by cable with any of the two LAN ports that it incorporates, one of them 2.5 Gb.
This system has the advantage that it does not require installation, it does not require a technician to go to the house and deploy a fiber network, and also, we can take the router and the network to another location As long as you have coverage.
For now, Vodafone Hogar 5G is available in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville, Zaragoza, Malaga, Bilbao and La Coruñaand the company affirms that the intention is to make it reach 65 cities.
Of course, those who are interested in contracting this service should inform themselves if the area in which they reside offers coveragesince it is not available in all neighborhoods.
