Here is all the information available about the brand new sustainable and eco-friendly smartphone, the Fairphone 5.
Like its predecessors, the FairPhone 5 will be an easy-to-repair smartphone thanks to its modular design. You will thus have the possibility of ordering one of the eleven modules that make up the device directly on the brand’s website. You will find number of guides and tutorials in the support section to help you repair your phone, if you want to fix it yourself. Despite its durability and repairability, we know that the selling price and performance of the device will be the most important purchase criteria.
Regarding the technical specifications, the FairPhone 5 will be powered by a Qualcomm QCM6490, an eight-core SoC which, according to its manufacturer, is “specifically designed for industrial and commercial IoT applications such as phones and other weather-sealed industrial devices, “kiosks, and industrial scanners,” for example. With a maximum frequency of 2.7 GHz, it should offer performance equivalent to the level of the Snapdragon 778G 5G found at Poco, for example.
The Fairphone 5 will be even more modular and will benefit from eight years of updates
The Fairphone 5 will have a 6.46-inch diagonal OLED screen with a resolution of 2770 x 1224 pixels and a refresh rate of 90 Hz. It will only be sold with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, a limitation offset by the presence of a microSD slot. The device will host two 50 Mpx sensors and the selfie camera will offer the same resolution. The battery will have a capacity of 4200 mAh, and users will be entitled to Bluetooth 5.2 and WiFi 6E. The chassis will be IP55 certified, against dust and splashing water.

The Fairphone 5 will benefit from eight years of major Android 13 updates and fixes, a very long follow-up that very few smartphone manufacturers can boast of. The Fairphone 5 should be presented from August 31. Interested customers will have to choose from three different dresses: gray, light blue or transparent. Inflation having also struck at Fairphone, it should be noted that the Fairphone 5 was sold 20% more expensive than the Fairphone 4, at €699.
