At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Segway unveiled two new electric bikes. The Segway Xafari and Segway Xyber. In both cases, these are impressive electric bikes that are a bit different from what we usually see on the market. We were able to approach them, here are our first impressions.
CES 2024 in Las Vegas is full of technological news of all kinds. Among those that struck us the most, the two new Segway electric bikes are among them. We have already described them in a detailed article, here we will give you our first impressions as well as some photos of each model.
You should know that the Segway Xafari and Xyber are the first electric bikes from the American brand, now under the Chinese flag since the acquisition by Ninebot.
Segway Xyber: a motorcycle or a bicycle?
We start strong with the Segway Xyber. When we arrived at the stand, we thought, within a few seconds, that we were facing an electric motorcycle. And yet, it is indeed an electric bike, with a huge battery with a capacity of 1.44 kWh (with the possibility of doubling it to reach 2.88 kWh).
The power of the engine is not to be outdone, with 175 Nm of torque propelling the machine to 32 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. The range is announced at 150 km. That's really a lot for an electric bike.
But when we are faced with this product, we only want to get on it and go on an adventure, far away, on steep terrain. The two-part padded saddle allows two adults to sit comfortably.
Segway Safari: a bike for adventurers
We then move on to the Segway Safari. A more traditional electric bike, which is more reminiscent of an VAE (Electricly Assisted Bike) than a Speedbike. Here, we still have a suspended front fork and huge tires, but much thinner than on the big brother Xyber. This bike is not made for extreme adventures, but more for everyday ones. Off the beaten path, however.
The technical sheet is slightly behind, with a motor with a torque of 80 Nm and a power of 750 watts. The capacity of the battery is astonishing, with 913 Wh on the clock. Enough to offer approximately 30% more autonomy than the competition depending on the brand.
The luggage rack at the rear of the bike makes the Safari an everyday bike, allowing you to easily transport your belongings in comfort.
The Segway Xafari and Xyber will hit the market by fall 2024 in the United States. We don't know if European versions are planned and we don't know the prices yet.
