However, the only difference that we find at this point is that the legal guarantee of the products sold by third-party sellers is offered by the third-party sellers themselves. A practical example would be the case that we buy a smartphone offered by Xiaomi within this platform.
Money back or repair?
If you are within the first 30 days of purchasing the smartphone, you can return the phone for not being satisfied with it and receiving in exchange the money you paid for it at the time. Basically, if you are not happy with the mobile you have bought, we can return it according to the legal right of withdrawal of 14 calendar days, or return it after 14 calendar days have elapsed, but always less than 30 calendar days.
If later its price went down or went up, when requesting this return, we will be refunded the same money that we paid on the day, neither more nor less. However, they will accept this process as long as the products (in this case a phone) are complete, unused and without any type of damage, that is, the smartphone must be wrapped in the same state in which we received it.
If the phone is defective or damaged and the 30 days have passed, you can file a repair on it within the period of the official guarantee that we mentioned earlier. But if we prefer in any case that they return the money to us, the processing and refund process can take between 2 and 3 weeks according to Amazon policy.
However, for returns of products shipped by Amazon we will receive a refund within a maximum period of 14 days. So we can see it in our bank statement within a maximum period of 5-7 working days from the issuance of the refund.
Does the Prime change anything?
No, the legal guarantee to which electronic products are subject in Spain is the same whether or not you have contracted Amazon Prime. This subscription only affects access to certain offers, free shipping within 24 hours and the possibility of using other platform services such as Video, Music or Photo.
Amazon’s guarantee
When buying a mobile on Amazon, it is clear that one of the most important points when it comes to spending money on a phone, and even more so when we pay a significant amount for a high-end mobile, what worries us is that the guarantee is of quality. For this reason, it is crucial to know the components that it will cover, in this case Amazon, as well as those damages that it will not be responsible for at any time.
What does it cover?
All aesthetic or functional failures that the mobile presents right out of the box are covered. But if, during the two years that the guarantee lasts, failures, errors or problems arise in the phone whose origin is its construction (the smartphone turns off by itself, the screen flashes, the audio is not heard, etc…) and not a impact or misuse of the phone, you can also demand a replacement or repair of your smartphone.
Both the repair at home and sending the product for repair and the repair itself have no cost in general and the shipping costs will be reimbursed to the payment method used when placing the order.
And what doesn’t it fix?
Everyone who problem that is not related to the manufacture of the mobile, is not supported by warranty. In this way, bumps, scratches, damage caused by humidity, broken screens and the price of their repair, damaged connectors, or problems caused by unauthorized handling are not covered. Similarly, if the smartphone has been rooted, you will also lose the right to run the warranty.
Another component that is not covered is the battery, or at least not by all manufacturers equally. Brands like Apple and Samsung cover it during the two years that the legal guarantee implies, but there are other brands that only apply a few months of coverage.
Theft or loss of the phone is also not covered.
Make use of your guarantee
In order to make use of the phone’s warranty, you must notify the seller of the defect within two months of discovering the defect.
Refund of money
If 30 days have not passed since you bought the mobile, you can opt for a return:
- To do this, you must first access the My Orders tab and select the phone you want to return.
- click on Problem with the order to indicate the problem you have with the device and, immediately afterwards, press on request refund.
- click on Send and prepare your mobile to return it as indicated in the instructions.
Repair
If the required 30 days have passed and you have verified that the smartphone suffers from a fault covered by the guarantee, you can request a repair:
- In this case, go back to the My Orders area and select Give back products on the mobile you want to repair, such as repairing the smartphone screen.
- When choosing the reason for the return, choose the option Faulty/Not working properly to describe the product problem and select Continue.
- If your phone needs to be taken to tech support, you’ll need to provide the shipping address so the repair center knows where to send the product when it’s fixed.
- You will then be provided with a label and instructions to send the product to the repair center or you will be directed to the repair service website to complete the process.
Who pays the return shipping?
In the event that we return a telephone sold or sent by the company, we will be reimbursed for the amount of the terminal as well as return costs, as long as it is made from Spain within 30 days from the date of receipt of the product. On the other hand, if the item you purchased was not eligible for a free return and we used a postage-paid return label, the platform will deduct the shipping costs from the total amount of the refund.
Can I enlarge it?
When buying a phone, you will see on the side panel the possibility of extending the legal guarantee for another 12 or 24 months. You just have to choose the option that suits you best and add its price to the final cost of sale.
