Although Buyback has been around for quite some time, Movistar has recently introduced several novelties that make it more attractive. On the one hand, it has extended it to other types of devices beyond telephones, and on the other, it has incorporated a discount on the amount of the product delivered for recycling when purchasing a new terminal.
What is Movistar Buybak?
Through Movistar’s Buybak program, the operator buys you a used device with the aim of giving it a second life. The idea behind this project, says Movistar, is to gradually withdraw old equipment from the market and manage its proper recycling.
Until now, users could convert the reward obtained by turning in that old device into a voucher redeemable in store or in an account deposit by transfer. From now on, a third option is added and it is also possible to transform that reward into a discount on the purchase fee for a new device.
That is, you deliver a device with value that you do not use and in return you receive a refund, a redeemable voucher or a discount on your new purchase. In the latter case, the Buyback amount will be applied as a monthly discount on your invoices.
In addition, Movistar has incorporated new device promotions into the Buyback program cumulative to the repurchase value of the device delivered by the client. These promotions, with discounts of between 50 and 150 euros, are associated with a wide variety of mobiles that the customer can purchase, even if he delivers a worthless used device.
Another recent addition to the Buyback program is that now, in addition to smartphones, tablets can be delivered and use the reward to purchase any device from the Movistar portfolio, including Smart TVs, laptops, consoles, tablets…
How Movistar Buyback works
To benefit from the Buyback program, all you have to do is follow a few simple steps through which you can get an appraisal of your old device even from home. Afterwards, Movistar will collect the device where you indicate and you will receive a redeemable voucher or the money directly in your account.
In case you prefer a discount when buying a new oneonce the valuation process of your old terminal is finished, you will have to finish the management in a Movistar store.

And how does Movistar value your used device? The first thing you should do is scan the QR code with your mobile that you will find on the Buyback website (you can see it in the image that is just above these lines). From that website, you can later check the status of your repurchase by entering the offer number and your zip code.

Afterwards, you will have to install a temporary Configuration Profile that will allow Movistar to check the brand, model and IMEI of the mobile (to verify that it is not a stolen device, for example). To install it, you just have to follow the steps shown on the screen; that profile is completely safe and is automatically deleted after the process is complete.

As soon as the profile recognizes your device, it will show you an estimate of its value in euros, that is, the possible reward you will get for it as long as it is in good condition. To do this, you must first diagnose terminal through the following tests:
- Touch screen: You will have to drag your finger across the screen to test its tactile response.
-
dead pixels: check if you see any dark and discolored spots in an image that the program will show you.
-
screen damage: here you will need a mirror to send a front photo of the phone.
-
Physical damages: You will have to answer a series of questions about the state of the phone.
-
back of the device: here you will need a mirror to send a back photo of the phone.

Once the diagnosis is complete, all you have to do is answer a few questions and choose if you prefer to pay the amount by transfer, as a voucher or as a discount on the monthly fee for your new device. And finally, decide if you want finalize the buyback transaction in store or through the web.
From there, it only remains to indicate Where do you want your device to be picked up? (remember to restore it to factory settings or, failing that, remove all locking systems). When that happens, Movistar will verify that it is in good condition and will pay you the corresponding reward. As we said before, you can check the status of the process on the Buyback website itself.
