Since his arrival in Spain several years ago, Xiaomi’s smart TV catalog has only grown. Currently, there are a lot of models to choose from with very varied specifications, sizes and prices. But there is an element that is repeated in many of them: Dolby Vision.
In addition to equipping Android TV, an incredible advantage that allows you to download applications and games on your Xiaomi television, in addition to incorporating Chromecast, the vast majority of the company’s smart TVs have Dolby Vision, a type of HDR that greatly improves image quality.
What is Dolby Vision?
In order to talk about Dolby Vision, we must first know what exactly is HDR. For its acronym in English, the High Dynamic Range or HDR is, basically, the proportion of lighting that exists in an image between light and dark areas.
Having a high dynamic range, the greater the difference between light and dark of the images on our television and therefore better contrast. With HDR you get a better balance and display of contentand it has become a feature essential of smart TVs.
When our Xiaomi TV has HDR10 or HDR10+, we are actually talking about standards that determine the level of contrast that the content can achieve reproduced, and its maximum ability to contrast those light and dark areas. Dolby Vision is a video format compatible with HDR10but with much more game.
Why is it better than conventional HDR?

As we say, HDR10 or HDR10+ are the contrasting standards for smart TVs current. Models like the Xiaomi TV P1 or the larger Xiaomi TV P1E equip these standards. Dolby Vision goes one step further and offers superior qualities that we usually find in the highest range, such as the Xiaomi TV Q1 or the Xiaomi TV F2.
While HDR10+, one of the highest standards in HDR, reaches up to 4,000 nits of maximum brightnessDolby Vision is capable of reaching 10,000 nits, more than double the usual. Of course, it must be taken into account that very few televisions are capable of reaching that brightness, which is normally around 1,000 nits.
In addition to better differentiate light and dark areasenhancing contrast, Dolby Vision is capable of interpret and adjust the color and sharpness of the imageand that is why, when compared to a television with conventional HDR, the quality of the one with Dolby Vision is much better.
Some streaming series and movie platforms, such as Netflix or Disney+, have cataloged their content so that you know in advance if have Dolby Vision or just HDRsince it is not an automatic adjustment of your Xiaomi tele, but of how the content was recorded.
