What is the benchmark in a cell phone?

Although it sounds like technical computer language, what a benchmark does is very simple. Basically it is a technique focused on measuring the performance of the system in order to have data on the performance of the equipment.

There are different types of performance tests, or benchmark tests, but most of them carry out an analysis on each of the hardware components of the system. In other words, the performance of the CPU, RAM, GPU and storage system or the screen -among others- is tested to obtain objective scores. And later, when the point test on each component is completed, the result is summarized in an average score of the set. This makes it easier to compare the performance of a device with respect to others that are available on the market.

The evolution of benchmarks or mobile performance tests

Previously, performance tests were limited to monitoring the processing time required for the execution of a program. Later, however, the benchmarks have evolved. At this point there are diversity of architectures, situations and compilers; And now, benchmarks are capable of executing much more complex tasks and tasks in order to know the real and objective performance of any system.

The benchmarks are carried out with specific applications, and can be unique and exclusively for the Android platform, or multiplatform. The latter are obviously the ones that allow you to compare the performance of an Android mobile device with Apple iPhone smartphones. Among the best-known benchmarking apps are Antutu Benchmark, Geekbench. PCMark for Android, GFXBench Benchmark and others that are focused on graphics performance, such as 3DMark or Antutu 3DBench.

When running one of these performance tests, it is recommended to keep all applications closed and no processes running in the background. And while the benchmark is running, it is recommended to have the device connected to the charging network, and with the screen on, but without executing any type of activity on it to allow the components to work at maximum performance. Keeping connectivity disabled can help the device focus solely on the benchmark.
