This initially rather innocent little game ended up taking a turn as dramatic as it was unexpected. First, the participants started filming themselves injuring their lips. They then covered them with Labello to camouflage but above all to aggravate the injury. Why ? The mystery remains intact.
A challenge where teenagers kill themselves
While we thought we had reached the limits (let’s say it) of stupidity, the challenge experienced a final, completely insane diversion since it involves the lives of the participants. Yes, you read correctly.
So the last challenge is to film yourself every day applying labello to your lips. But a central element gives a whole new dimension to the challenge: when the Labello is over, the participant must end his life.
And what had to happen happened. Several teenagers have died trying to participate in this crazy challenge.
Several studies have indeed demonstrated a correlation between the increasingly fragile mental health of adolescents and the time they spend on social networks. A fragile profile can therefore easily commit the irreparable.
What does TikTok do?
We guess that the viral nature of such challenges is the business of TikTok. Nevertheless, these high-risk situations require social network intervention.
While many other challenges have put some users at risk (one thinks of the one consisting in artificially inflating one’s lips), TikTok has promised that it will work to limit this kind of content as much as possible on the platform. Obviously, there is still a lot of work. Recently, another 12-year-old boy was found dead after taking part in the “Blackout Challenge”, another game where children put themselves in mortal danger.
