It’s really strange, but sometimes the volume buttons on an iPhone can stop responding properly. There are various reasons that can lead to this situation. Fortunately, we have several resources with which to remedy the situation to be able to re-adjust the volume of our iPhone with a single click.
Five resources before going to an Apple Store
The volume buttons on an iPhone cannot be disabled, they do not depend on software settings, but they do have some internal processes that can cause them to not respond as they should. In order these are the resources we have at our disposal to recover its correct operation:
- Restart our iPhone: It is true that on iPhones with a Home button we can restart the phone without relying on the volume buttons, but on more current iPhones we do need them. Thus, to restart the iPhone in these cases, all we have to do is open the app Settingslet’s get into general and let’s play To turn off. Then we turn on the iPhone normally.
- Remove the cover: If our iPhone has a case, it is possible that this is responsible for the volume buttons not responding properly. To rule out that this could be the source of the error, we should remove it and check what happens.
- Clean volume buttons: Similar to the previous case. Dirt around the volume buttons may slightly jam them. It’s a good idea to use something like a brush (a bit stiff) to remove dirt from the buttons. A slightly damp microfiber cloth is also a good solution.
- Update iPhone: Let’s make sure we have our iPhone updated to the latest version available. To do this, simply open the app Settings let’s get into generalThen in Software update and check if any are available.
- Reset iPhone: We arrive at the last of the steps before going to a repair. The best we can do if the volume buttons are still not responding is to hard reset the iPhone. Before restoring the backup it is a good idea to check if the buttons work, because if they do and after restoring the copy they stop working, it would indicate an error in the software that would lead us to do a clean installation without restoring any copy.
- Go to an Apple Store: Last resource. If none of the above solves the situation, it must be the hardware. In this case, it is best that we go to an Apple Store or an authorized Apple dealer, always having made an appointment beforehand, so that they can fix the situation.
The truth is that it is really strange that the volume buttons stop responding on an iPhone. A situation, however, very uncomfortable. While we are trying to fix the situation let us remember that we can use the Control Center, which we will access by sliding down from the upper right corner of the screen, to modify the volume. If what we need is to take screenshots, it is best to ask Siri.
