Like every month today we have to talk about the Android Subsystem in Windows 11. An update arrives today to all Windows Insider channels (only in the United States). This update (version 2206.40000.15.0) includes several new features such as updates to input support in apps like games, improvements to networking and windows, and reliability updates. But, we are going to see each and every one of the novelties.
What’s new in Android Subsystem on Windows in August
- New set of shims available to toggle in the Windows Subsystem Settings app for Android to improve the experience across multiple apps
- Support for games with joysticks (assigned to WASD)
- Added support for gamepad games
- Support for aiming in games with the cursors
- Including support for swiping in games with cursors
- Scroll improvements
- Network improvements
- Android minimum window size has defaulted to 220dp
- Improved dialog when unsupported VPN is detected
- New option to view/save diagnostic data in the Windows Subsystem Settings app for Android
- security updates
- General reliability fixes, including improvements to diagnostic sizes
- Graphics enhancements
Known issues in the August update
Some VPNs may not work with the advanced network. If you’re using a VPN and find that your Android apps don’t have network connectivity, turn off advanced networking in the Windows Subsystem Settings app for Android
