eye! The Police begin to use Waze as a security strategy.
most mobile phones They have some GPS navigator application, which help you find the best route to go from one point to another. Some browsers have more advanced features such as reporting an accident and of course locating the police.
Waze, for example, has a social component, where users report all incidents on the road. When you place the navigator you will see speed camera and police alerts, forcing you to slow down a bit and change your driving strategy. But can only users do this? Apparently not.
The ‘trick’ of the police in Waze
Any driver can warn other users about threats of conduction. The reports are made in real time and the screen will update in just a few seconds, in order to speed up the traffic a bit.
But it seems that the police have found a very simple way to make their job easier traffic. The officer corps of Surrey, in England, has decided to avoid hiding and instead give away their position, pointing out the location in Waze.
Shortly after the strategy works for them, it was the same Surrey authority who presented their campaign to the world, all through Twitter. They even mentioned that they were going to replicate this strategy outside of the county:
We definitely do not drop Police markers in Waze at random points on our patrol. An easy way to get drivers to slow down on our roads. We are there at that specific point in time.
Shortly after, in an interview with The Guardian NewspaperSurrey Police have mentioned that these temporary warnings managed to reduce the speed of all vehicles for about 15 minutes, resulting in in a speed drop of 10% and consequently fewer traffic fines.
Remember that Waze can help you drive carefully, and proof of this is that the police are using it.
