A report from a display industry analyst points to the MacBook Pro as the first Mac to debut Apple’s M4 chip
After the surprise launch of the iPad Pro with M4 chip, it was It’s just a matter of time to start speculating about the launch of Macs with the most recent chip of the Apple silicon era. A tweet addressed to Ross Young subscribers pointed out that the MacBook Pro would be the first Mac to carry it. According to supply chain information, shipment of panels for the 14 and 16-inch models will begin, at the earliest, in the third quarter of 2024 and it is likely that we will see them at the end of the year.
The first laptop to have Apple’s M4 chip would be the MacBook Pro
Let us also remember that the MacBook Air recently updated to the M3 chip, so It is completely logical that the first laptop to update to the renewed M4 chip is the MacBook Pro. The latter was updated at the end of October at Apple’s Halloween event, which was one of the fastest in terms of total presentation time with a record of 30 minutes.
Ross Young’s report agrees with Mark Gurman in that Apple is already scheduling its next launches with the M4 chip and the MacBook Pro and Mac mini are considered. How could it not be otherwise, Apple will expand the M4 chip family with the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips and they would be for both MacBook Pro models. The M4 chip would only arrive in the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
The Mac mini would have two options, M4 and M4 Pro. The other Macs such as the MacBook Air, Mac Studio and Mac Pro would be updated until 2025 but the release date is still unclear. The M3 chip is relatively young in terms of launch since it is not close to reaching one year of existence. What happened to Apple in terms of the time period of these releases?
There will be no design changes in any of the Macs with M4 chip
As it was expected, The Mac update will not bring any design changes. The biggest thing regarding the MacBook Pro will arrive until 2026 when it makes an evolution to the OLED panel as recently happened with the iPad Pro.
Apple’s M4 chip is the first second-generation chip to work on a 3-nanometer process. It improves up to 25% over the M3 chip and it is very likely that its best scenario will be seen in the most advanced chips, although they still remain comparable between nearby generations. Apple critics noted its launch as being very similar to its predecessor.
When macOS Sequoia is released as a final version, it will also give us another point of view on the performance of the M4 with Apple Intelligence. The Apple silicon chips and the A17 Pro chip are the only ones to benefit from this Apple artificial intelligence technology.
