Microsoft is preparing an update to the Microsoft Store that should greatly simplify the management of app updates on Windows 11.
Slow, buggy, unreliable: the Microsoft Store has been heavily criticized in its various iterations over the past few years. But recently, Microsoft has been working to improve the user experience and performance of its app store month after month.
Following updates regarding game downloads and app performance, the Microsoft Store is set to receive some long-awaited interface improvements.
These changes are being rolled out to Windows Insiders (Canary and Dev) first before rolling out to all users by the end of the year.
Changelogs finally more visible
This is the main new feature of this update: the “Library” and “Update and downloads” pages are now separate. In the first, you will now be able to display all the applications you own, but also only those installed on your computer. And miracle, a search field will be available to find an application in your library in just a few clicks.
This is obvious in 2024 and yet, Microsoft did not display the release notes (changelogs) in the list of applications being updated. These indications allow you to know in particular what changes, improvements and corrections are made by the new version of an application.
Usually hidden within the application page, they will now be much more visible. It is still necessary for the developers to add them for each update instead of the classic (and frankly useless) “Bug fixes and performance improvements”.
Finally, Microsoft has added a new section for temporary events for apps and games in the store as well as a new Microsoft Store badge to add to app websites.
