The Redmond company continues to clean up its operating system. After NotePad, it's the turn of the User Action Recorder to bow out.
Windows will lose yet another long-standing native application. After announcing the imminent end of its WordPad text editor, Microsoft has just confirmed that it will remove another application that has long been present in its operating system. Unlike WordPad, you won't miss this application, which you probably don't know exists.

The End of User Action Recorder
Inaugurated in 2009 in Windows 7, the User Action Recorder will officially disappear from Windows 11. The tool, largely unknown to the general public, allowed you to record screenshots of the problems you encountered on your PC. A very handy solution for providing context if you needed, for example, to contact a support service for help.
The utility, which was offered as an additional feature since Windows 10 20H1, made it possible to generate a document in which all the actions you carried out were detailed. Everything was illustrated by annotated screenshots on which the clicked areas appeared highlighted with the possibility of adding your own comments.
Although very practical, this little-known tool among users has just benefited from its final update. This does not bring anything new, but simply adds a message indicating that the utility is at the end of its life and redirects the user to a page suggesting alternative solutions.
“ In a future version of Windows, User Action Recorder will be deprecated. This change is part of our plan to streamline our offerings and focus on providing more advanced, integrated tools to our users. » says Microsoft on its website.
Instead, Microsoft recommends using the Screen Capture Tool's screen video recording function, or turning to the screencast module integrated into the Xbox game bar. The Redmond firm also suggests using Microsoft ClipChamp, the new native video editing tool that Microsoft has integrated into Windows 11 and which also offers a screen recording option.
Not sure, however, that these alternatives are as effective as the User Action Recorder. None of them automatically add information about actions performed, highlight interface elements you interact with, or make it easy to add comments.
