Last night, Apple released a series of updates for all users, including iOS 17.6, tvOS 17.6, watchOS 10.6, visionOS 1.3 and… macOS Sonoma 14.6! This latest update didn’t bring anything revolutionary, however it adds something very practical for owners of the MacBook Pro 14-inch M3: support for two external displays. This feature, which is logical for a MacBook Pro, was not possible until last night!
One of the flaws of the 14-inch M3 MacBook Pro is now fixed
Last night, Apple rolled out the new version of its operating system, macOS Sonoma 14.6, bringing some additional features. One of the most anticipated new features is the compatibility with two external displays for the 14-inch MacBook Pro M3.
When it was launched, the 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 didn’t support dual external displays, but Apple promised that a software update would fix that. With the release of macOS Sonoma 14.6, that promise has now been kept. The 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 can now support dual external displays with the lid closed.
Dual-screen support in closed mode was previously introduced for the MacBook Air M3 in March 2024, this new update now extends this feature to the 14-inch MacBook Pro M3, allowing for greater flexibility for professional and creative users.
This new multi-display support only applies to the 14-inch MacBook Pro M3 model; models with the M3 Pro and M3 Max chips already supported multiple external displays when they were released.
In addition to this new feature, macOS Sonoma 14.6 fixes several security vulnerabilities. While none of these vulnerabilities have been actively exploited, it is strongly recommended that you update as soon as possible to ensure the security of your Mac.
