More than 200 million to 50 projects
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation, through the Secretary of State for Telecommunications and Digital Infrastructures, has already published the final resolution which, finally, lets us know who will be in charge of carrying a minimum fiber connection through those corners of the country that still do not enjoy this network.
In any case, this final resolution awards 244.6 million euros to 50 projects of the 159 presented by different operators «cwith the objective of bringing access to ultra-fast broadband connection to 728,500 homes and businesses«. In addition, these are distributed throughout the national territory and close to half are concentrated in these communities: Galicia, Castilla y León or Andalusia.
It must be borne in mind that, in most of these cases, we are before white areasin which they do not even yet have network coverage with a speed that reaches at least 30 Mbps. Within this project, we also find the well-known gray areas, those in which they only have ultra-fast broadband coverage or they are expected to receive fiber in the next three years from a single operator.
The chosen operators
Finally, we already know who will be the operators in charge of taking the connection of this network to those corners where it has not yet reached. Therefore, the real estate units that will benefit with FTTH/GPON technology from these operators in particular:
- Adamo.
- Avatel.
- telephone.
- Asteo Neutral Network.
- Iberian operator of telecommunications networks and services.
- Red wind.
These six telephone companies will be in charge of extending and improving the digital infrastructures in those areas that have not yet been reached. In addition, this help line is one of the different aids that aim to spread the fiber throughout Spain, especially in rural areas, thus contributing to the «territorial cohesion» Fixed in the Digital Spain 2026 agenda of the Recovery Plan.
And we remind you that this latest plan has foreseen an investment of 2,000 million euros until 2023. In any case, the objective is that, by 2025100% of the national population has broadband coverage.
