Although men continue to be the majority in this sector, the female gender is gaining strength, something that has been confined to a study published by EAE Business School.
And it is that the incursion of girls in this industry is not limited to individual or online gaming, but it reaches e-sports, making several of them professional gamers.
But what does the report reveal? Next we give you the information.
women and gaming
According to the EAE Business School, 90% of the women consulted, between 18 and 30 years of age, stated that they play video games, a percentage almost equal to that of men (91%).
Regarding spending, 69% of women stated that they usually spend between 41 and 50 euros, compared to 71% of men.
As for the type of game that most attracts women, the categories that predominate are:
- Board games (56%)
- Strategy (45%)
- Simulation (40%)
- Role-playing (32%)
- Platform (29%)
- Arcade or 2D (27%)
- Racing, including vehicles (26%)
- War and fight (20%)
- Sports (18%)
Now, regarding the reasons that lead women to be in the gaming world, they stand out: for fun (61%), leisure (53%), development of digital skills (22%), socialization (20%) and learning ( 19%).
And although more women are joining this entertainment sector every day, they are still a minority within e-sports.
According to the survey, only 23% of girls who play video games do so at events at a professional level.
However, just over 63% of gamers, whether men or women, do know professional video game players.
On the reasons that make women not participate in e-sports, the study highlights the following:
- There are no games that I like (35.75%)
- The industry is sexist (14.51%)
- Games that exist are very masculine (11.92%)
- Because there are no other women (7.25%
- None of the above (46.89%)
From what these data tell us, we can deduce that the participation of women is increasing, but it is gradually.
Despite this, there is no doubt that over time the female gender will have more foray into the industry.
