“Do you remember when iOS 18 was presented? That 2024 was impressive. It changed the history of iOS forever, as did iOS 7 in 2013. What memories when we all used iPhones and not Apple Vision, which since its major update in light format “They have reached the whole world. The truth is that I would pay to relive what WWDC 2024 was like in which Apple revolutionized its mobile operating system.”
I hope one day I can write an introduction like that. Or send a message to an Apple enthusiast friend who felt the same emotions I’m feeling when We are just a few hours away from experiencing a historic Apple event. Another one. Last year’s, with Vision Pro coming to light after decades of development, was just the first step.
Honestly, my journalistic soul forces me on a daily basis to be aware of all the good things that are yet to come, but also of the disappointments that could arise. And in a way, the deeper Álvaro should perhaps lower expectations so as not to suffer disappointment later. But you know what? That I don’t like him. I want to get excited. And I don’t want to hide it.
The prelude to something (very) big

It’s been years since I’ve experienced so much excitement in the weeks leading up to an Apple developer conference. And don’t get me wrong, WWDC is my favorite Apple event. Even above those of the new iPhones. After all, it is in these events where such a fundamental part as the software is presented and, as a cherry on top, transversally for many devices without having to go through the checkout.
However, I think that from the most enthusiastic to the least close to the brand we agree on something: iOS has not been exciting for many years. And be careful, I don’t want bad interpretations here either. This is not necessarily something negative, but it can even have a positive reading as, in my opinion, it does.
iOS is a tremendously mature system and, although some shortcomings may be attributed, there is nothing serious about it. Personalization, greater openness to third parties and little else. They are classic big “problems” of the iPhone system and even they have been appeased in the latest versions. It’s not perfect, of course not.
For many years I have been straddling Android and iOS to the point that I could perfectly live with either of them. However, I always end up returning to iOS for purely personal reasons. And like me, many other users who choose to choose between one or the other for minimal aspects that in the end help them in their daily lives.
Not being left behind is an exciting challenge
Unlike my colleague Pedro Aznar, director of Applesfera, I do not have such a long professional and usage history. In my backpack I have 12 years as a user of the brand and seven of them as a technology media professional. Many or few, depending on who reads it and how you want to interpret them. In my opinion, enough to witness the evolution and stagnation of a system that, for many, does not go any further. And maybe that was a true statement two years ago, but not now.
The rise of generative artificial intelligenceand I clarify generative because AI has existed for a long time and Apple also applies it, it has forced all big tech step on the accelerator. And OpenAI, Microsoft and even Google already have a good list of advances at this point and Apple, unlike them, has even been afraid to pronounce the term “artificial intelligence.” Until now.
The leaks suggest that several developments in the area of AI with iOS 18 and the rest of the systems, since it will be something transversal to all operating systems. For some of these functionalities there is talk of OpenAI as a supplier, with whom Apple has closed an agreement according to sources close to both companies. And all without ruling out Google from the equation.
The bad omen has no place on this occasion
As I said before, it is logical that a part of me has a certain caution when it comes to measuring expectations and that a part of me tells me “hey, calm down, maybe later it won’t be that big of a deal.” Of course, it can happen and lead to disappointment, although I have decided to enjoy it.
After almost a decade working in the communication sector around technology and that feeling of believing I have seen everything, few things generate high expectations in me. Artificial intelligence, on the other hand, is exciting me again. Therefore, cutting my wings when dreaming is now absurd.
There are hours left until this event begins, which in its prelude promises to be historic. The nerves are on edge. And frankly, I don’t know if what will come after June 10 will change our lives or not. Maybe that’s dreaming too high. Although If anyone has shown how to break the market, it is Apple. Now they have to do it one more time.
At Applesfera we will tell you everything up to the minute

As it could not be otherwise, at Applesfera we will be attentive to what Apple presents at WWDC 2024 to bring you all the news in real time, in addition to analyzing the first beta versions of the new operating systems in subsequent days.
Besides, our colleague and director Pedro Aznar will be at Apple Park to not only attend the event in person, but also to be able to bring exclusive content from all the other events of this conference. And, we remember, WWDC 2024 does not end with the first keynote, but rather that is just a first course followed by a whole week dedicated to developers.
