Xiaomi will be the first to use the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chip

In a few months, Xiaomi will launch its new series of affordable Poco F5 smartphones in France, and we already know a lot about them, including the chip that the cheapest model will use.

On Chinese social networks, Xiaomi has just announced the arrival of a new smartphone, the Redmi Note 12 Turbo. Its particularity: it will be the first smartphone to be equipped with the brand new Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 chip just announced by Qualcomm. It will also be quickly joined by another device, the Realme GT Neo 5 SE.

So what does this have to do with the Poco F5, the manufacturer’s next affordable smartphone that will directly succeed the famous Poco F4? Kacper Skrzypek, Polish MIUI specialist, has just announced on Twitter that the source code of the overlay has revealed that the Redmi Note 12 Turbo will arrive as the Poco F5 in Europe. It will therefore be the same device, but under another name, a fairly common practice for Xiaomi.

The Poco F5 looks very powerful

Thanks to the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2, the Poco F5 is likely to be one of the most interesting devices in its category. In addition to being very powerful thanks to its 4 nm engraving and its cores offering high frequenciesthe chip uses a Snapdragon X62 modem and a FastConnect 6900 router, which will make the smartphone compatible with the Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.

Qualcomm is also beefing up the Spectra Triple Image Processor with a new 18-bit color sampling, compared to 10 bits previously. The smartphone will therefore not only be more powerful, but also better in photography. The autonomy should also be very good, the 4 nm engraving signed TSMC generally making smartphones very energy efficient.

It will therefore not have much to envy its big brother, the Poco F5 Pro, which will arrive with a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. This SoC is only slightly more powerful, and should therefore be better suited to a gaming use. As a reminder, the Poco F5 Pro will also be a renamed version of another smartphone from Xiaomi: the Redmi K60.

The launch of the Redmi Note 12 Turbo should take place very soon in China, but it will probably be several months before we see the Poco F5 arrive here. It also remains to be seen how much the device will cost, as Xiaomi has significantly increased the prices of its smartphones this year.
