Last week, Microsoft released two cumulative updates for the latest versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11. These updates were not security-related, but they did fix bugs and errors, and also added new features and functionality to the OS. However, what Microsoft did not disclose is that it has also released a patch for the new version of windows 11the 24H2. And it is not even available for installation yet.
Windows 11 24H2 is the 2024 update for the operating system. This version should reach all users after the summer and will bring a large number of changes and improvements, both in system usability and in relation to Artificial Intelligence. 24H2 is only available to users who are on the most unstable branch of the Insider program.
However, its release may be much closer than we imagine, since, along with the Windows 10 and Windows 11 patches last week, Microsoft has also published a cumulative patch for 24H2.
KB5040529 Patch for Windows 11 24H2
As we can see in the official Microsoft changelog, this update has come with a good number of changes, improvements and new features. Some of the most important ones that we can find in this update are:
- New emojis. Windows has been updated to support Emoji 15.1. Support for Unicode symbols has also been added, and customization of people emojis has been improved.
- Ability to drag icons from the start menu to the taskbar.
- New Microsoft account manager integrated into the start menu itself.
- Windows Backup will now save your sound settings configuration, including custom sound schemes.
- The Windows lock screen now displays widgets for sports, finance, and traffic.
- Ability to drag files from the explorer via the address bar to other directories.
- New settings: connected devices, ability to add a new recovery email account, Game Pass recommendations, and ease of renaming your PC or changing the date.
- Task Manager changes. RAM speed is now displayed in MT/s instead of MHz.
- Improvements at the end of a process.
- Fixes to make it much more reliable, accurate and perform better.
In addition, Microsoft has taken the opportunity to correct several errors and bugs detected in this 24H2 of Windows 11 so that, when the update reaches everyone, it will be as stable as possible.
How to download the patch
The fact is that not only has the changelog for this update been published, but Microsoft has also uploaded the patch to the Microsoft Update catalog. Therefore, although we will not be able to install it on 23H2, or any other older version of Windows, we will be able to download it to save it on our PC.
To do this, we just have to go to the Microsoft Update catalog section and search for the patch by code KB5040529.
The update is available for download for both 64-bit computers and ARM64 processors. Also, as a curious fact, if we search we can see that last June Microsoft also uploaded cumulative patches for this version of Windows 11 in a hidden way, and there are also a large number of certified drivers ready for this version.
Is this an imminent launch? Let’s hope so.
