We have already talked about TDTChannels before, an Internet television and radio platform with which we can access hundreds of channels for free. Available on multiple platforms, it is one of the most convenient ways to access Hundreds of different channels from our devices.
If you want to use TDTChannels from the Fire TV, you will have noticed that the app is not available in the Amazon store. That does not mean that we cannot access the platform, since we can install the application through the APK by making some previous settings. If you do not want to complicate things too much, there is an alternative to use the platform without installing anything.
We can take advantage of the Fire TV mirror mode to watch DTT without having to install the app
TDTChannels is available for free on Google Play for anyone who wants to watch TV directly from their mobile, so if you have the app installed on your smartphone you can take advantage of the screencasting feature to watch TV on your Fire TV without having to install the app on the Amazon device. The procedure is very simple.
If it is the first time you use TDTChannels you should keep in mind that the app does not contain any channels: to be able to watch TV from TDTChannels We have to load a playlist previously. The official lists can be found on the project website, so you just have to copy the link that points to the JSON file and paste it into the application. If you have any doubts on this point, I recommend that you read our TDTChannels user guide.
Once you have correctly configured the TDTChannels application on your mobile You will be able to see all the available channelsThe app’s interface is quite intuitive and you just have to click on the icon of the channel you’re interested in to start watching it. The next step is to send the screen of your mobile to the Fire TV.
Located next to the playback controls you will see the button for the send screen function, which is the option we are interested in for send the contents of the screen to the TV. This button is also located in the upper right corner of the interface when we are consulting the programming of a particular channel. When we press it, a menu will appear in which we will have to select the device to which we want to send the content (here we should see our Fire TV).
As soon as you select the Fire TV, you should start watching the channel on the TV almost instantly, with the advantage of using the app itself as a remote control. In case you don’t see your Fire TV, it’s important to make sure we are using compatible devicesFor example, you won’t be able to cast your phone screen to Fire TV if you’re using the Google Pixel.
To check if your Fire TV can use mirror mode you must access Settings > Display & sound > Turn on mirroringIf this option does not appear, it means that the device is not compatible, so in that case you will have to install the TDTChannels APK to be able to watch DTT from the Fire TV.
This is certainly an interesting way to watch DTT on the Fire TV when we don’t want to install the application using the APK. This can be especially useful if the Fire TV is not ours or we don’t want to complicate things by modifying the device’s settings.
