How could it be otherwise, right now the software giant is putting a good part of its efforts into maintaining and improving the latest version of the system. Although Windows 10 continues to receive security patches, the most important updates are now focused on Windows. We tell you all this because at this moment version 21H2 is nearing its end of support. This will happen on October 10 of the present 2023. At that moment this version of Windows 11 will receive its latest batch of security updates.
In other words, computers still running that version of the operating system will no longer receive security updates from that moment on. As you can imagine, this will make them vulnerable to external attacks, which can become a problem for both users and the firm. And it is necessary to take into account that this version of Windows 11 is still used by millions of computers around the world.
Actually we refer to the initial version of this operating system and since then the firm planned two years of updates. This means that at the end of next October the Home, Pro, Workstation and Education editions of Windows 11 will no longer be supported.
You should update Windows 11 to its latest version
This is something that Microsoft has been warning about since last July. All this so that administrators and users of Windows 11 computers that work with 21H2, began to update to newer versions before October. But despite all this, the software giant wants to provide the means to help us in this regard.
We tell you all this because Microsoft itself now lets us know that Windows Update will automatically install the latest feature update. Obviously the one that is compatible with our computer and will be carried out on those computers whose support is about to end. This is something that will apply to consumer devices and unmanaged enterprise devices. Sure, as long as they’re running one of the end-of-support editions of Windows 11. October 2023.
At the same time, we must take into account that these forced updates to a more recent version of Windows 11 begin several months before reaching the end of support. They can even occur once the operating system stops receiving updates, as is the case that we have mentioned. What has not been made clear is the version of Windows 11 to which computers will be automatically updated. But this hope that it is about 22H2, which is really the one that has support at the moment
With everything and with this, it is expected that the version 23H2 will also be released in a few weeks. What is also not clear is how systems with unsupported hardware or that may cause us compatibility problems will be managed. Those who have installed the operating system on unsupported hardware will probably have to carry out the update themselves by hand.
