The steps of Twitter and Elon Musk begin to trigger a series of catastrophic events. After the cancellation of third-party clients and the arrival of Twitter Blue with functions such as account verification, it is not the only big technology that start charging for some features which were previously free.
Meta has announced the arrival of “Meta Verified” for Facebook and Instagram. A kind of subscription plan to verify users, achieve greater visibility and better support for the account. There is no doubt that Twitter has created a trend with this measure, and Meta is next on the list.
Meta Verified, pay to verify your account
This new subscription plan has been announced by Mark Zuckerberg’s company to provide users with new tools to stand out on both social networks. As we know from Kurt Wagner, specialized journalist, the Facebook and Instagram plan it will cost $11.99 per monthor 14.99 if we subscribe from iOS.
New: Meta is launching a subscription service called “Meta Verified” for Facebook/Instagram. It costs $11.99/month ($14.99 on the iOS app) and features include:
* verification badge
* better account support
* “increased visibility and reach”—Kurt Wagner (@KurtWagner8) February 19, 2023
The new Meta Verified will allow the user validate your account with your national identity document. In this way, once we have paid and shared our identity, we will receive a blue verified badge, letting other users know that it is our official account.
According to the CEO of Meta, now users will have a extra layer of protection to prevent other accounts from impersonating us. If someone succeeded, they could capture access to customer support. In the words of Zuckerberg: “The new function tries to increase the authenticity and security in all our services.”
As announced on the official Meta blog, the characteristics that will be added to the paid users will be:
- Verification badge, which will imply that the account belongs to the actual owner.
- More protection to prevent identity theft.
- Help when you need it with access to a real person for common account issues.
- Increased visibility and reach in some areas of the platform, such as search, comments and recommendations.
- Exclusive features to express yourself in a unique way.
The new payment plan starts this week
Users of these social networks will receive the proposal to upgrade to Meta Verified during this week. **Roll-out has started** in countries including Australia and New Zealand
“We will be rolling out to Australia and New Zealand this week and more countries soon” Mark Zuckerberg
However, this will not remain alone in these places but Mark himself confirms that coming to “more countries soon”.
This new trend that Twitter has established is beginning to bear fruit in other companies in the sector. Those who will not be so satisfied will be the users who now they must pay to prove their identity. Something that sounds totally meaningless keeps repeating itself, in this case on Meta’s social networks.
We hope that no Meta does not replicate Twitter’s strategy of including the two-step SMS verification within the Twitter Blue plan. At the moment, we can use other alternatives to this verification, but the discontent of the users is already being noted.
We will soon see the results of this movement as well as the arrival of Meta Verified to other countries. We do not know how the game will turn out for Twitter, Facebook and Instagram after this intense entry into the new year.
