Windows is an operating system designed to work on millions of completely different computers, unlike macOS, an operating system designed to work on at most a hundred different computers, even though they share most of the hardware. Due to this, it is normal that, from time to time, the occasional update does not work correctly on all the computers where it can be installed.
Last Tuesday, Microsoft released the corresponding security update for the month of March, an update that, as we informed you from SoftZone, patched different security problems, including two of the zero-day type, that is, problems that were found have been present on the computer for a long time and have been detected.
With each new security update, Microsoft takes the opportunity to improve performance and stability of Windows, however, on certain occasions, as in this case, the update does not sit well with certain computers, as in this case.
If after installing the new security patch, you have noticed how the PC is slower than normal, both when starting up and when you are copying large files and you have an SSD drive, you are one of the users affected by the problem that is generating this update, a problem that, according to what we can read on Reddit, initially seemed to only affect a specific model of SSD, but unfortunately, it is not.
One of the users who opened this thread has published a screenshot that shows how the reading speed of the SSD installed in his computer has dropped by half and that, in addition, the computer stops temporarily when it is running. transferring files in addition to considerably increasing loading times.
Solve the problem
The update that has caused this problem is Windows is the number KB5023706 An update that, if we remove it from our team, will solve the root of the problem of decreased performance of SSD drives. If you are one of the users affected by this problem, a problem that is quickly detected if we are used to the applications we use opening at a certain time that our mind has timed, we have two options:
- On the one hand, we can uninstall the update from our PC, which will pose a risk to the security of our equipment, since this patch fixed up to 77 vulnerabilities and trust that Microsoft will fix this problem as soon as possible with an additional update (it has recognized the problem and is working on a solution).
- Continue with the installed update, as long as the reading speed of our SSD is not essential for our work. If it doesn’t matter to us that the computer takes a little longer to start and if we don’t work editing video files, it really isn’t worth putting the security of our computer at risk, because of a problem that Microsoft will fix in a few days.
