During the WWDC25 main event, VisionOS 26, the third generation of the operating system for Apple’s Vision Pro, was unveiled. Recall that Apple has readjusted the numbering of its operating systems; now they will all carry the number 26 starting this year and continuing into 2026, which will extend their relevance. Below, we’ll take you on a tour of all the new features for Apple’s latest major innovative product.
The Apple Vision Pro continues to be updated thanks to visionOS 26
Spatial experiences continue to be renewed with the arrival of VisionOS 26, where Apple Vision Pro will take a new turn for all areas, from personal to professional. A product that was thought to revolutionize the face of spatial computing can now be used for many activities.
A major update packed with groundbreaking spatial experiences and new features for Apple Vision Pro. Everyday interactions are more immersive and personal, with widgets integrated into a user’s space, spatial scenes that use generative AI to add hyper-realistic depth to photos, striking improvements to People, and shared spatial experiences between Apple Vision Pro users in the same room.
It supports 180 and 360 degrees, so that content with a wide field of view won’t be a problem for viewing footage from cameras like GoPro, Insta360, and Canon. On the work front, companies will benefit from dedicated APIs so that any company can exploit any spatial experience. A direct example is how Apple Vision Pro will be compatible with the PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers.
Widgets take on new relevance, and spatial experiences are further enhanced with visionOS 26
Widgets are literally here to stay, as with VisionOS 26, you can place them in every space in your home. They come in different depths, widths, and color options, so they’ll look like they’re part of your walls. You can use them as simple decoration in your favorite spaces throughout your home. Third-party apps will be made available to developers to support these new visual styles.
For work or play, Apple Vision Pro takes spatial experiences across a room to a whole new level. Collaborate on a project together or play any compatible game, and enhance the experience by adding people via FaceTime with Persona. Each person’s images will now be more realistic and natural. It’s truly incredible how much this Apple design concept has improved in such a short time.
Space scenes and new ways to explore and entertain with games and content
Capturing spatially immersive photos with the iPhone will be a delight as they now take on a new dimension in iOS 26. Generative AI will work alongside computational depth to create spatial scenes from a photo. You’ll now be able to view a photo from different angles, feeling as if you could relive that moment by looking around and leaning out as much as possible. Developers will also be able to leverage an API called Spatial Scene to bring this new dimension of immersion to their apps. For example, an app called Zillow can display images of homes that take advantage of this depth so users can better see where they’re going to live.
Reading in Safari will take on a new dimension with the selection of spatial navigation. Each article will come alive by hiding all distractions so you can focus on the content. Web developers will be able to enhance their websites by including 3D models; viewing any content designed this way in Apple Vision Pro will be like being in a dream. Games will also take on a new dimension with built-in high-performance motion tracking across six degrees of freedom. Throughout the rest of the year, we’ll see new releases that will undoubtedly be of interest to the gaming community.
Other new features in visionOS 26
- Image Playground is added as part of Apple Intelligence support
- Look to Scroll will allow you to navigate VisionOS 26 using just your gaze. Developers will need to integrate this feature into their apps.
- If you need to use your iPhone while using Apple Vision Pro, you’ll be able to unlock it, even during immersive experiences. This will be available through iOS 26.3 for iPhones that support Face ID.
- Answer your iPhone calls in Apple Vision Pro or start a call from People View or by tapping a phone number on a website.
- VisionOS 26 launch now supports folders, so you can group all your apps into different folders without taking up too much screen space.
Unfortunately, there has been no announcement yet about the arrival of Apple Vision Pro in Spain. The next release window could be as late as September with the release of the iPhone 17, although we’ll see in a few days if the VisionOS 26 code contains any clues about its release.
