Although Apple usually updates its devices for many years, they have a limit, and around 6-7 years, they receive their last update. This is something that happened with the iPhones that we will see today, but, to everyone's surprise, they have received one again.
It is about a special versiondesigned so that people who continue using any of these models do not lose native Apple apps. It doesn't bring much, much less new, just a way to extend the life of your terminals a little more.

Apple has released a slightly special update, one of those that no one expects but that is more important than it seems (especially for a certain number of people). It is designed for very old iPhones and iPadsthose that no longer receive new versions of iOS, but that many people continue to use for the basics, or that at least Apple intends for them to continue.
With this update, Apple makes sure services like iMessage and FaceTime continue to work for longer on those devices. If it didn't, starting in 2027 they could start to cause problems simply because the internal certificates expire, even though the phone itself continues to turn on and work fine.
We talk about quite old models, such as the iPhone 5s, the iPhone 6 or the 6 Plus, as well as some iPad Air and iPad mini ancient. They are devices that are many years old, but they are still in drawers, in the hands of older people or used as a second mobile phone without complications. You can't install most apps, not even WhatsApp is compatible, but they still work as something basic to stay in touch. In many cases, it is a teenager's first phone, ideal for being able to locate it without having to use it for much else.

This update It does not add new functions or change anything visible in the system. Everything remains the same, but inside it is renewed just enough so that you can continue sending messages or making a video call without one day, suddenly, it stops working without explanation, although this would be in 2027, at which time having an iPhone 5S would be quite strange.
Therefore, if you have one of those models, you can now go and install this version. You may have gone years without checking for updates, as is normal, but now you will come across one. If you are thinking of using a phone only for calls or messages, it is also a good time to take them out of the drawer, or buy one for a low price, since Apple is telling us, indirectly, that these models still have many years ahead of them, at least for basic functions.
