The four iPhone 14s will be presented during Apple’s Back-to-School Keynote on September 7, 2022. Even though there are only two days left, Mark Gurman of “Bloomberg” still has information in his bag.
In addition to notch, the good old sim card could eventually disappear. In any case, this is what journalist Mark Gurman, Apple specialist for Bloomberg in his newsletter weekly dedicated to the future iPhone 14, which will be unveiled on September 7, 2022 (barring disaster).
If the prospect of a 100% eSIM smartphone still seems a little crazy, Apple certainly has the ability to drive this change. Concretely, Mark Gurman evokes the possibility of an iPhone without a SIM card drawer. But the thing is not quite understood yet.
Apple advances a notch towards the eSIM
Apple is going to give eSIM a bigger push this time around, with carriers preparing to steer users towards digital and embedded SIMs rather than physical ones. In fact, Apple has considered doing away with the physical SIM card slot altogether starting this year or next year for some models.
From what we understand, Apple could therefore not really take the plunge this year, but press more strongly on the eSIM option, in partnership with operators, with the ultimate aim of eliminating the good old smart card.
Second consecutive year with a larger battery
The other major innovation mentioned by the journalist concerns the battery. Indeed, it would be larger on the Pro models, which would amount to a second consecutive year in this direction for the Apple brand.
As a post on Baidu points out, the iPhone 14 could pack in a 3,279mAh battery, compared to the iPhone 13’s 3,227mAh. The 14 Pro could pack in a 3,200mAh battery, compared to the 3,095mAh iPhone 13 Pro. Conversely, the 14 Pro Max is said to have a slightly smaller battery, at 4,323mAh, compared to the 13 Pro Max’s 4,352mAh.
Also on the design, Mark Gurman of course mentions the more than likely disappearance of the famous notch on the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max, but also another small design modification. The 14 Pro should therefore be wider, but also incorporate thinner borders.
