All kinds of rumors about Windows 12 have been floating around for months now. The successor to the current Windows 11 is going to be a reality, especially considering that Windows 11 has not exactly been a success and that its predecessor, Windows 10, is left without support whenever. It is likely that this year, or, at most, next year, we will already have a new operating system among us. But what changes, improvements and new features will it bring? We do not know. But what we do know is what we want.
Microsoft has made a lot of bad decisions with Windows 11. And that is taking its toll. The operating system has not taken off, neither among home users nor, much less, in companies. Therefore, it is vital that Windows 12 It means a change, an evolution, to continue making everyone happy.
As a user of the Microsoft system since Windows 95, I am going to tell you which 12 features this operating system should have, yes or yes, in order to satisfy users.
Finish things that are half done
Windows 11 has many things that are half done. And they give the impression of great neglect and general disinterest on the part of Microsoft. Therefore, the first thing we would ask is that everything that is half completed be completed:
- The control panel. It’s a constant I want and I can’t. We are constantly seeing how Microsoft is bringing new functions to the Settings center, but the Control Panel is still present in the system. Let Windows 12 put an end to this, bring all the settings from the Settings panel, and eliminate this inherited, and currently useless, section of the system.
- Mobile link. The idea of being able to connect any mobile phone to Windows and control it from the PC is wonderful. But anyone who has used Enlace Móvil will have realized that, as implemented right now, it is a real disaster. It doesn’t work on many phones, on others it doesn’t work well, some functions are exclusive to some models, others to others… we hope that with Windows 12 all this is already solved.
- Widgets. Widgets yes, widgets no, now news, now widgets in another way… Microsoft is not clear about how it wants to show us the gadgets in Windows, and it does nothing but experiment. We hope that for the next version of the system, this will be solved and we will have a neat and well-designed panel for widgets. And please, can the news carousel be disabled.
- Copilot. Artificial Intelligence does not end up reaching Windows 11. Every so often we see new attempts to do so, and how Microsoft ends up backing down. Let’s see if with this new operating system at least AI has already reached the operating system, Copilot is well integrated into Windows 12, and we can enjoy those advantages that Microsoft talks so much about.
- File Browser. Every version of Windows we see a new version of Windows File Explorer. And each one worse than the last. The last one adds interesting things, like the details panel, but also bugs and errors in the thumbnails and icons. Half things are not liked, and Windows 11 has too many fronts open at the same time, and none of them closed.
New features for Windows 12
Of course, I would also like Windows 12 to bring new features that allow us to get more out of the operating system and also not depend so much on third-party software. Some of them would be:
- New noise cancellation feature. We increasingly use the computer to communicate, both between people and at work or while playing online. What is not normal is that the system itself does not have this function already included. If Copilot’s AI is so powerful, it can be used to analyze the audio, improve it and cancel noise when we speak into the microphone.
- dynamic wallpaper. One of the functions that we liked the most about macOS and that we miss the most in Windows. It is a series of backgrounds that changes depending on the time of day, from dawn to dusk. Something that I wanted very nice and pleasant on the PC but that, we don’t know why, Microsoft doesn’t finish including it.
- Backup. Although Windows already has its own backup tool, due to its complexity, since it is hidden, I don’t think anyone uses it. Let’s hope that with Windows 12 a new backup tool will be created, much easier to use and that allows users to create backup copies without complications.
Regain lost control
Of course, one of the biggest handicaps when working with Windows is the large amount of control we have lost over the operating system, control that we hope to be able to regain soon. For example:
- Customize the right-click context menu. It is true that, personally, I do not dislike the new context menu, quite the contrary. But it is also true that I would like to have a little more control over the options that appear or do not appear on it. Also, there are many users who don’t like it, so using it should be optional.
- More control over default programs. Just like the previous point, Microsoft trying every possible way to get us to jump through hoops and use Edge, Bing and other programs and services of its own is quite tedious. We hope that with Windows 10 we will regain the control lost with default programs.
- Customize the taskbar. This is another of the points I like most about Windows 11: the centered taskbar. But there are many users who don’t. And although we can change its location, the customization options it offers us are minimal.
Other changes for Windows 12
And, in addition to all of the above, we would also like to see other important changes within Windows 12. The most relevant is, without a doubt, a reduction of advertising. And what started with a couple of recommendations in Windows 10 has become a nightmare in Windows 11. Especially if we take into account that it is a paid operating system. Therefore, let’s hope that Microsoft reconsiders and decides: either to make Windows free, without licenses or hidden costs (at least, for the user), or not to include so much advertising within the OS.
And, as a bonus, all applications that still have outdated designs are updated. Starting, above all, with the Xbox app, which, while the company wants to turn its system into an entertainment center, as soon as you open the app you want to close it and open Steam to play.
