Apple’s latest Studio Display stands out in several ways. One of them concerns its firmware which is none other than a variant of iOS 15.4. Precisely, a developer made an interesting discovery there since there is a reference to a new Mac named Macmini10.1. As you will have understood, this is the new Mac mini 2022 which should be announced in the coming months to replace the Mac mini m1 from the end of 2020 and whose identifier is Macmini9.1.
The new Mac mini M2 is talking about him again
It is the well known Steve Troughton-Smith who had fun browsing the Studio Display-specific iOS code. According to him, everything suggests that the new Mac mini 2022 will be equipped with the M2 chip, which is not surprising, although an M1 Pro chip variant was expected. Except that in the meantime, Apple has released a Mac Studio which acts as a high-end Mac mini with the M1 Max chip and even an M1 Ultra version.
The rumor mill is a little unclear as to what new Macs are imminent; for what it’s worth, there is one concrete clue: the shipping Studio Display firmware references one unaccounted-for mystery machine — a new model generation of Mac mini (“Macmini10,1”). My guess: M2, not M1 Pro

Apple’s “Mac” calendar is very busy this year, with even more computers to come, as Mark Gurman reported again this weekend. We are counting in particular on a brand new redesigned MacBook Air M2, an entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro, an iMac Pro and above all a Mac Pro with an even more powerful chip than the M1 Ultra.
It remains to be seen how Apple will orchestrate all these launches. The Mac mini seems in any case in the pipes.
