You know the music, there is the live product presentation and then there are the small lines at the bottom of the page on the product sheet which provide some details and sometimes unpleasant surprises. Like last year, the 4K ProRes 30 fps mode is available on the 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB iPhone 14 Pro. For the basic 128 GB model, this will not be possible.
4K ProRes: The iPhone 14 Pro 128 GB excluded from the equation
This is not an info but simply a reminder. Like last year with the iPhone 13 Pro, video recording in 4K ProRes is achievable only if you have at least 256 GB of storage on your iPhone 14 Pro. Apple indicates this at the bottom of the product presentation.
Given the monumental size of the files in this definition, Apple thinks it smart not to offer it on the model with only 128 GB of storage. On the basic model (128 GB), you will have to settle for 1080p at 30 frames per second. As a reminder, Apple indicates that a one-minute video in 4K ProRes weighs an average of 6 GB.
As a reminder, the new 48 Mpx sensor of the iPhone 14 Pro would also be storage intensive. According to the first feedback, a photo alone would weigh 80 MB. Anyway, if you make videos with the ProRes mode, we can only advise you to export them somewhere other than your iPhone once ‘they are no longer useful to you immediately, and therefore, to buy an iPhone 14 Pro with a minimum of 256 GB of storage.
