The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro started arriving to customers around the world this Friday. After discovering the big news like the Dynamic Island, those who want to make the most of their new phone should definitely read on. We’ve made a list of five tweaks exclusive to the new 2022 iPhones.
Harness your new iPhone 14
Some of these tweaks are exclusive to iPhone 14 Pro models, while others are available to base iPhone 14s. That completes our hidden tips in iOS 16 as well as our tips for properly setting up a new iPhone.
Enable 48MP ProRAW Photos
The iPhone 14 Pros feature an improved rear camera system that can take 48-megapixel photos, but only in ProRAW mode, which can be enabled in the Settings app under Camera → Formats → Apple ProRAW with the resolution set to 48MP. In the Camera app, a button labeled RAW will appear in the upper right corner to easily enable or disable ProRAW mode.
ProRAW photos retain more detail in the image file for greater editing flexibility. 48-megapixel ProRAW photos are very large files, around 80MB each or more, so be mindful of your iPhone’s storage space if shooting in this mode.
Enable 4K cinematic mode
On all four iPhone 14 models, videos in Cinematic mode can now be recorded in 4K. To enable higher resolution in the Settings app, tap Camera → Save Cinematic and choose 4K at 24fps or 4K at 30fps.
Introduced with the iPhone 13 range, Cinematic mode offers a depth effect with automatic focus changes for “cinema-style” videos.
Optimize Action mode for lowlights
All four iPhone 14 models feature a new action mode which compensates for severe shaking, movement and vibration for smoother videos. According to Apple, this function can be used to record videos during a car ride, film a sportsman, etc.
A button for Action mode is in the top left corner of the Camera app for videos. In the Settings app, Action Mode can be optimized for low light conditions by navigating to Camera → Record Video → Action Low Light Mode.
Enable a startup sound
A new optional Accessibility feature allows all iPhone 14 models to play a startup or shutdown sound. The new feature can be activated in the Settings app, under Accessibility → Audio/Visual → Startup and shutdown sounds. In particular, it allows the visually impaired to know when their iPhone turns off or turns on.

Disable always-on display
New always-on display mode iPhone 14 Pro is enabled by default. It can be turned off in the Settings app under Display & Brightness → Always On.
Always-on mode minimizes the entire lock screen, but still displays the time, date, widgets, wallpaper, and unread notifications. After you lift the iPhone, tap or swipe up at the bottom of the screen, or press the side button, the display returns to normal brightness. And Apple explained the 8 scenarios in which the screen turns off completely to save the battery.
