If we use a laptop, the most convenient thing is to always use the wireless connection to enjoy a wireless Internet connection, although it is not the fastest way to do it if we want to enjoy maximum speed.
However, sometimes, we may encounter some problem or another when connecting to the Wi-Fi network and, no matter how hard we try, we cannot achieve it. Most of these problems have a very simple solution and in less than a minute, we manage to solve the problem.
Troubleshoot Wi-Fi connection
Most of the problems that prevent us from connecting to a Wi-Fi network are related to configurations or changes that we have made to the equipment without realizing it.
- Approach the router. Walls and appliances that get in the way of the Wi-Fi router reduce its range and signal quality. If we have problems connecting to our Wi-Fi signal we should consider moving a little closer until the signal has at least two bars of signal.
- Password has changed. This is one of the common problems especially when we are not at home. Windows does not allow us to connect, but it does not inform us that the stored password is not correct, although it shows us the box to enter it again.
- Turn off airplane mode. If, instead of showing you the inverted triangle associated with a Wi-Fi connection, an airplane is shown, it means that we have cut off all communications, so we will never connect to any Wi-Fi network until we deactivate it. To do so, we just have to access the notification center and click on Airplane mode to deactivate it.
- Our equipment is not compatible. If our equipment is a few years old, it is likely that it is not compatible with the 5 GHz network, which offers the highest speed with a shorter range. If the network we want to connect to does not offer an alternative 2.4 GHz signal with greater range and lower speed and the only one is 5 GHz, no matter how hard we try, we will never connect, and, in fact, it will never be shown on the list of available wireless networks.
- Change network name and password. If, after deleting the Wi-Fi connection, we still have the same problem, the best thing we can do to solve this problem is to change the name of the Wi-Fi network and the password to try again, something for which we will need another computer or connect using an ethernet cable.
- Erase and reconfigure the Wi-Fi network. Sometimes Windows doesn’t feel like connecting to a Wi-Fi network and doesn’t tell us why. In these cases, the best thing we can do is delete the Wi-Fi website and reconnect again. This option is found within the Windows settings options (Win + i) Network and Internet > Manage known networks.
- Reset network card. If none of the solutions that we have indicated above, it is time to delve into the Windows configuration options, specifically what is related to the operation of the network card. The first thing we should try is to deactivate and enable the Wi-Fi connection. We can do this through Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center and clicking on Change adapter settings.
- Change channel width. If we are in a place with many wireless signals, in the end, all of them are affected by the interference that is generated. The solution to this problem is to configure Windows to automatically choose the appropriate channel width in each situation. We can do this from the Device Manager, select the wireless connection and access the advanced properties. Next, we select the 2.4 and 5 GHz bandwidth to change the value to Auto.
