The PC specialist Acer is embarking on the adventure of urban mobility with two new electric scooters answering the names of Acer escooter series 5 and Acer escooter series 3. On paper, the first named displays excellent value for money.
Electric scooters have experienced strong growth in recent years. In 2021, 900,000 units found takers in France, an increase of 42% compared to the previous year, exposed the Statista site. This is clearly not an isolated jump, but a gradual trend observed since 2017.
Inevitably, some actors do not fail to rush into the breach to grab potential shares of a very juicy cake. This is particularly the case of Acer, mainly known for its laptops and Chromebooks but now a driving force with two new models: the Acer Escooter Series 5 and Series 3.
Rear shock absorber and long autonomy
The first electric scooter is probably the most interesting, given its price and technical characteristics. At 499 euros including tax, a competitor of the Ninebot KickScooter E45E and Xiaomi Scooter 1S, it opts for relevant choices and unusual advantages in this price segment.
Among the two major strengths mentioned, let’s mention the rear shock absorber capable of absorbing shocks and other bumps in the road by 20 to 30%. At 500 euros, few electric scooters offer comfort worthy of the name, for lack of a shock absorber in particular. The 10-inch solid tires should also play a role.

Acer also evokes a generous battery whose autonomy would increase to 65 kilometers. This is consistent, although Acer was able to measure this value under specific conditions. We doubt that this radius of action was obtained with mode 2 which limits the machine to 10 km/h, even less with mode 3 which caps it at 6 km/h.
In any case, it will be necessary to carry out a complete test to verify this data. On the other hand, the full recharge in 8 hours will encourage you to recharge it at night or during a whole working day. Another notable point: the presence of a cruise control, which will allow you to configure a maximum speed according to your desires or your route. Interesting in idea.
A heavy weight
On paper, the Acer esccoter series 5 doesn’t seem to make a big mistake and offers an equally solid rest of the spec sheet: aluminum chassis, rated power of 350 W (maximum of 470 W), maximum speed of 25 km/ h, 16% slope, IPX4 certification (protection against splashing water), front and rear light.
The press release even mentions a stop light always good to take, so that other users are warned of your braking phase. Braking, precisely, is provided by an electronic brake at the front and a disc brake at the rear. Again, this is relatively reassuring.

Two small flats somewhat tarnish the copy, without either spoiling it: the weight of 18.5 kg, which does not make it practical for intermodal or to climb several floors with the strength of your arms. But also the motor located in the wheel, which could sometimes slip as has happened to us several times on other models.
This series 5 finally displays the following dimensions once unfolded: 118 x 49 x 125 cm. Only one color will be available: black.
A less expensive Acer 3 Series Escooter
For 100 euros less, the Acer escooter series 3 leaves room for a few concessions: the nominal power of its motor drops to 250 W, the 8-inch tires should impact comfort and the 7.8 Ah battery only offers a small theoretical autonomy of 20 kilometers, which is a bit tight.
On the other hand, its weight of 16 kg makes it a bit more practical to transport. Acer does not mention any rear suspension in the elements that the two models share. Otherwise for the rest, nothing changes, except the dimensions: 107 x 49 x 120 cm. All at a price of 399 euros.
Finally, note that Acer intends to continue its momentum, since this new range of products will be enriched in the coming months, assures Angelo D’Ambrosio, Managing Director Acer France.
The Acer Escooter Series 5 and Series 3 will be available at the end of October at Fnac Darty.
