Tech News Desk – Apple, a company that manufactures the iPhone, has been steadily reducing its dependence on China for manufacturing. Due to this, its largest contract manufacturer Foxconn started manufacturing iPhone in India first. Now the company has also planned to make AirPod in India. For this, it is going to set up a plant in India at a cost of around Rs 1,650 crore. The agency cited sources with knowledge of the matter as saying that Foxconn has received an order from Apple to make the AirPod. This is the first time Foxconn has received an order to manufacture AIRPOD. At present, many Chinese suppliers are manufactured by many Chinese supplies.
Foxconn to set up plants in Telangana
The source informed that Foxconn will invest over $20 million i.e. around Rs 1,650 crore on the Airpods plant. The company can set up this plant in the Telangana state of India. However, it is not yet clear how many AirPods the company has received to make it. Phoxcon’s subsidiary FOXCONY Interconnect Technologies Limited may start construction of an AirPod factory in Telangana in the second half of this year. While AirPod production could start as early as 2024.
Apple Said to Plant Plant in India
The source said that the recommendation to set up the AirPod plant in India was made by the Apple company itself. However, Foxconn was skeptical before taking orders to manufacture AirPods due to low margins. A source said on condition of anonymity that there was a debate among executives of the Taiwanese company Foxconn whether it should order the construction of the airport or not, as it has very low margins. But eventually the company decided to further strengthen its link with Apple.
