As you know, Apple introduced the second generation of AirPods Pro this week with improved audio quality, longer battery life, twice the noise cancellation of the AirPods Pro 1, a revamped charging case with the support Locate charge and water resistance, and more.
In addition to these major new features, there are a few small details about the new AirPods Pro 2022 that should interest you.
The new AirPods Pro will be available to order this Friday, September 9 at 2 p.m., with a price set at 299 euros in France, which is 20 euros more than the 2019 model. The second generation AirPods Pro will be available on September 23 at the sale.
A heavier charging case
The new charging case weighs 50.8 grams without the AirPods Pro inside, making it around 11% heavier than its predecessor, which weighs 45.6 grams. On the other hand, the weight of the left and right AirPods Pro headphones remains almost unchanged.
Improved in-ear detection
The AirPods Pro now feature a skin sensor that can more accurately detect whether the AirPods are placed in a person’s ears, compared to the dual optical sensors in the AirPods Pro 1. Apple claims that this improved sensor helps More accurately enable or disable audio playback on the new AirPods Pro, which helps extend battery life.
The skin detection sensor was first added to the AirPods 3 last year.
Straps sold separately
The new AirPods Pro charging case has a built-in loop on the right side of the case for attaching a lanyard, but Apple says lanyards are sold separately. You can find tons of them on Amazon by searching for phone straps for example.
Apple Watch charger support
In addition to charging via MagSafe and Lightning, the new AirPods Pro case can now be charged with an Apple Watch’s magnetic charging puck. Nice !
Customizing Memojis
Apple has announced that customers can customize the second-generation AirPods Pro case with their own Memoji for free through the Apple Store app. This also applies to AirPods 3.
Bluetooth 5.3
Like the iPhone 14, the new AirPods Pro support Bluetooth 5.3, according to Apple’s technical specifications. Bluetooth 5.3 could pave the way for the AirPods Pro to support “LE Audio”, which would have several advantages for wireless headphones, but Apple hasn’t made any mention of this yet.
XS tip
For smaller ears, Apple has included a fourth size silicone tip, the XS. This is to adapt to young people and people with a mini duct.
Physical volume control
Finally, Apple ended up folding and now offers a physical control for the sound volume. Simply hold the rod with two fingers, then slide up or down to change the intensity. Not bad !
