The company has requested the cessation of processor production from TSMC.
Apple begins to enter the manufacturing stage of its new line of iPhone 15 smartphones. TSMC began production of the 3-nanometer A17 Bionic processors at the end of December 2022 and, as of today, Apple already has enough orders like to focus on the next task. In fact, it has asked TSMC to cease shipments.
The information comes from DigiTimes and ensures that Apple has already secured the first round of orders for 3-nanometer processors that will be used in the manufacture of A17 Bionic and M3 chips for iPhone 15 and MacBook Air, respectively.
TSMC has already provided initial supplies of A17 Bionic and M3 processors to Apple
Apple already has 100% of the processors necessary to start manufacturing its future line of iPhone 15 products and its MacBook Air laptops. The company will have exclusivity of the 3 nanometer processdespite the large economic investment that this entails.
Mass production of TSMC processors began, as previously anticipated, at the end of December 2022. In just two months (less), the Taiwanese manufacturing company has already achieved supply the entire supply of processors for Apple thanks to the fact that they decided to increase the capacity of their facilities to meet the demand.
TSMC’s 3-nanometer chips will initially be intended for iPhone 15 Pro and to iPhone 15 Pro Max (Ultra)as well as the MacBook Air that is rumored to be released in the second half of this year.
This type of 3nm technology in the process of manufacturing processors means that the chips will offer up to 35% energy efficiency. A piece of information that would agree with the rumor that the new iPhone 15 will improve a lot in battery and not so much in terms of power.
As for the processors that the 2023 MacBook Air range will incorporate, DigiTimes itself reported that it was likely that they would have an M2 processor. The same chip that is present in the current generation of MacBook Air. A piece of news that doesn’t make much sense, unless TSMC’s supply is limited to A17 Bionic chips of the iPhone 15.
On the other hand, there are analysts who assure that the new round of M3 chips will be available for the next MacBook Pro to be introduced in 2024. What do you think about this news?
