Annually, Apple holds a meeting for all its employees focused on artificial intelligence. With the amount of news that we are seeing around ChatGPT, Bing, Google Bard and others, the truth is that Apple makes few headlines in this line. However, artificial intelligence is very important for the Cupertino company, and it could bring us some surprises.
The fact that what is internally described as “the AI WWDC” is held annually has a lot to say about how in Apple takes these technologies into account. It is true that the most notorious applications we are seeing now with conversational technologies, but in the classification of photos, in the search for patterns and in many other features that we already take for granted on our Apple devices, AI is already present.
Waiting for WWDC23?
As noted by Mark Gurman in his latest newsletter, Apple has celebrated its AI summit recently, although without anything extremely noteworthy. According to Gurman, the head of artificial intelligence at Apple has told employees that “machine learning moves faster than ever” and that the talent that Apple has in this field “is at the forefront.”
“Earlier this month, Apple held its annual internal summit to discuss ongoing advances in machine learning and artificial intelligence within the company. In a handout for the event, Apple’s AI chief told employees that” machine learning is moving faster than ever, and the talent we have here is really at the forefront.”
“While that may be Apple’s belief, I haven’t heard of anything, to consumers, that is an inflection point being talked about during the event. For those wondering, I don’t think Apple has shown a ChatGPT competitor/New Bing or anything like that”.
From Gurman’s own writing, it is clear that we know little of this event. But what we know even less about is Apple’s plans for artificial intelligence. The main reason for this is that it is something that can be developed very internally in the company. It doesn’t require leakable hardware or anything visible to reference.
We are entering the field of speculation, certainly, but nothing invites us to think that Apple does not have the odd surprise in the field of artificial intelligence. If so, and if it is also confirmed that we will see the Reality Pro of extended reality in the WWDC23, that’s where we should see news.
