Mac Studio’s Manzana It’s less than a year old, but it could be on the verge of disappearing. According to a new report by Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman, Apple may not bother to update the computer any time soon, or in the worst case, I could give it up completely.
In the latest edition of his Power On newsletter, Gurman states that a new version of the MacStudio “In the near futureThis is because the Mac Studio and the next Mac Pro could be “similar in functionality”, making the former a redundant model.
Gurman’s report talks about two possibilities for Mac Studio: Either Apple stops updating it permanently (meaning it will be outdated quickly), or the company waits to introduce new changes until it releases the M3 or M4 generation of chips, which isn’t expected until 2025.
Gurman continues: “The upcoming Mac Pro is very similar in functionality to the Mac Studio, incorporating the M2 Ultra chip instead of the M1 Ultra. So it wouldn’t make sense for Apple to offer a Mac Studio M2 Ultra and a Mac Pro M2 Ultra at the same time.“.
Mac Studio vs Mac Pro: this is why Apple abandons its study team
The Mac Studio has some clear disadvantages compared to the Mac Pro. For starters, it’s a lot less modular. Although recent reports have suggested that the next Mac Pro will not have expandable memory or graphics.
Besides, the Mac Pro is much better at cooling its components than the Mac Studiothanks both to the advanced cooling system that Apple has incorporated and to its larger size, which favors better air flow.
However, there are plenty of people who will be bitterly disappointed if Apple doesn’t update Mac Studio. Its much more compact shape makes it easy to place on desks or move to different places. The Mac Pro is much larger and heavier due to its metal tower design.
At the time of its release, the Mac seemed to be the death knell for the iMac Pro, ending any hope of a revival of the all-in-one. But with the future of Mac Studio now potentially in limbo, the future of the range is complicated.
