Apple will likely launch an iPad with a foldable screen in 2024, the analyst firm said this morning CCS Insightwhich predicts that the American technology giant will soon begin experimenting with foldable technology within the company.
In the latest report relayed by CNBC, CCS Insight predicted that Apple would launch a foldable iPad in two years, catching those who imagined a foldable iPhone instead. Indeed, this strategy is contrary to that of other smartphone manufacturers like Samsung who have launched foldable smartphones rather than tablets.
A foldable iPad rather than an iPhone
Ben Wood, Head of Research at CCS Insightexplained in an interview with CNBC:
For now, it doesn’t make sense for Apple to make a foldable iPhone. We think they’ll steer clear of this trend and probably dip a toe in the water with a foldable iPad.A foldable iPhone will be very risky for Apple. First, it would have to be incredibly expensive to not cannibalize existing iPhones.
For the analyst, a foldable iPhone should probably cost around $2,500, which is $1,000 more than an already very expensive iPhone 14 Pro Max. Moreover, at this price level, Apple would not have the right to make mistakes. Otherwise, the slightest problem could prove catastrophic for the company.
Still, Apple has “no choice but to react because the foldable device trend is gaining momentum,” Wood said, hence the company will start with an iPad.
He added that it would give Apple a chance to learn how to implement and adapt foldable screen technology and “breathe new life” into the iPad lineup.
Of course, all this does not come out of nowhere. Predictions about a folding iPhone have been around for at least four years. Last year, Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities, a reputable Apple analyst known for his credible predictions, said the company could release an iPhone Fold in 2023.
Earlier this year, market research firm Display Supply Chain Consultants said Apple was unlikely to enter the foldable smartphone market until 2025 at the earliest. However, the American company is exploring foldable technology for screens around 20 inches.
Apple has reportedly been working with LG since 2017 to create an ultra-thin cover glass that could be used on the company’s foldable products…
