A year later, we could expect Apple to come up with an update. However, according to the generally very informed blogger Mark Gurman, the next generation (5th) of iPad Pro would be well launched this summer. As we have been hearing for several weeks, these new iPads should carry the next Apple M2 chip – which will also be found in future entry/mid-range Macs.
Here’s what we know so far about the next iPad Pro 2022
This M2 chip should still be equipped with 8 CPU cores – but should benefit from a reinforced graphics part which goes from 7-8 cores to 9-10 for increased performance. The chip should also be engraved according to the TSMC 4 nm node against 5 nm currently. This finesse of engraving should allow Apple to add a few million additional transistors on the same surface, while reducing the energy consumption of the chip to increase the autonomy of these iPads.
It is also possible that other additions and improvements will be integrated depending on the new functionalities that these devices will be able to embark, in particular on the side of the photo processing enclave, or Machine Learning. But it’s too early to tell what those new features might be at this point. It also remains to be seen if Apple is preparing a new design.

The design of the iPad Pro has not changed much since 2018 and the firm has since declined the same design codes on its entire iPad range. A new design would further differentiate the business tablets from other variants. Still, the design language of the tablet with its flat edges is reminiscent of the latest iPhone, and it is quite possible that Apple will wait until the launch of a new iPhone design to change the design of its tablets.
