Apple aims to revolutionize the accessories market for iPhone and iPad.
Apple is looking for new ways to attach accessories to its mobile devices, specifically the iPhone and iPad. The company has multiple variants of iPhone cases and even iPad keyboard cases. But now Apple has registered a new patent that could completely change the way we use these covers.
From Apple Insider report that Apple has registered a new patent titled “Peripheral cover for an electronic device”. And what is a peripheral sleeve or cover? It is a new vision of the company to redesign the way in which the covers are attached to the device.
Apple could be working on a totally different case for iPhone and iPad
The images attached to the patent show us a device very similar to an iPad surrounded by a curious case that would be attached to the tablet on one side only. This coupling would allow the device to rotate and would even have a small pin that would come out as an iPad support in the lower area to keep the tablet standing.
This type of cover is very reminiscent of those type covers bumper or “bumpers” that mainly prevent bumps and scratches on the corners of the iPad and iPhone. But with a small twist, and that is that the Apple patent case could be segment to be able to hold the tablet in different positions.
According to the description of the patent registered by Apple, the case could house enough space to protect other components such as a battery or an Apple Pencil. But maybe it could also contain other hardware like a camera. In such a case, Apple should accommodate the design of its future iPads for the use of this type of case.
In any case, the fact that Apple has registered a new patent does not necessarily imply that the company has devised to carry out these plans. Perhaps these types of covers will never see the light of day, but the patent registration does indicate that Apple has been considering the possibility of designing covers of this type. What do you think about these covers? Think they’re too fancy for an iPhone or iPad?
