iOS 17.2 is an update full of new features and improvements. After several weeks of beta testing, here it is.
Apple has rolled out iOS 17.2, an update that brings a range of new features and fixes. This version spent several weeks in the beta phase, we have already talked about it many times.
The Journal application: the big new thing
The iOS 17.2 update introduces the Journal app. It's a digital diary, in a way. This application allows you to record everyday moments in various formats: text, images, audio messages, and even activity data from the Apple Watch. Thanks to the integration of artificial intelligence, Journal offers subject suggestions, obviously personalized.
The app will also support third-party integrations via a dedicated API. Developers will thus be able to offer features to integrate their applications with Journal. For example, Instagram could allow posts to be added directly to the user's timeline.
Finally, access to the application can be secured by Touch ID or Face ID, and the data is stored encrypted on iCloud.
Other iOS 17.2 changes
Beyond the Journal app, iOS 17.2 offers several improvements and new features on Apple devices, including the iPhone 15 Pro:
- Customizable action button: it is now possible to configure this button to translate sentences in real time.
- Spatial videos: this function, for Apple Vision Pro, allows the recording of 3D videos.
- Camera improvement with telephoto lens: optimized focus for capturing small, distant objects.
- New Weather Widgets: Improved options for displaying rain or snow forecasts.
- Lunar calendar in Weather: an addition to track the phases of the moon.
- Siri access to Health information: Siri can now interact with data from the Health application.
- Improved AirDrop: easier sharing of transport tickets and others.
- Apple Music: automatically create a playlist of favorite songs.
- New clock widget
- Autocomplete in PDFs: identification and suggestions for text fields.
- Qi 2 wireless charging support: Available for iPhone 13 and 14.
Finally, Apple promises enhanced security with iMessage Contact Key Verification. This “iMessage Contact Key Verification” feature notifies users in the event of a compromise of iCloud servers, thus strengthening the protection of encrypted communications.
