Many rumors have been unleashed about what the Apple Watch Series 8 could be and now, a patent won by those from Cupertino seems to confirm those related to temperature measurement.
The proposal, sent to the United States Patent and Trademark Office, came under the name “Temperature sensor in electronic devices” in a document that suggests that this technology can be used in any device. However, it is striking that in the illustrations shown the reference is a smartwatch.
In detail, the patent won by Apple speaks of an electronic component that concentrates a “high-precision absolute temperature” sensor and a differential probe, elements that create a system to calculate differences between the two ends of the probe: one located in the surface to be measured and another connected to the sensor.
In this way, by evaluating the differences in voltages, the sensor can determine a specific temperature. The sensor, according to the Apple patent, can be located in internal or external areas of a hardware component, in the latter case, it is specified that it can be located on the back of a smartwatch. This is not the first time that Apple’s intentions to add a body temperature sensor to its smart watches have been put on the table.
Apple Watch Series 8 in sight
Last year it was rumored that it would be the Apple Watch Series 7 that will adopt this function for the first time, which the manufacturer ruled out after the algorithm did not meet the expected results in the testing process, to rule out environmental factors and focus only in the user’s body temperature.
With the approval of this patent, it could be the Apple Watch Series 8 that wins this long-awaited function with more reliable results.
It is true, a patent does not guarantee anything; However, given the competition in the sector, adding this temperature sensor would be an almost obligatory step for Apple to remain a leader in terms of innovation, which would be added to other rumored functions such as the possibility of predicting diseases.
