The Apple Pencil managed to gain a space among iPad buyers who needed greater precision in its use. The fingers were fine for mobile or normal use, but a fine adjustment or stroke must be done with a dedicated tool.
We have seen how two generations of Apple Pencil paraded on our iPads. There are actually three, if we count the Apple Pencil with USB-C that the brand launched on the market for those who needed something cheaper with the latest design. But now the new generation has the surname Pro and that means something.
New Apple Pencil Pro, at the controls of creativity
We will detail the details of the daily use of the Apple Pencil Pro in the in-depth analysis. However, in this first contact I would like to talk about the sensations when using it for the first time. It has a similar size to the previous model and in terms of weight we would not be able to differentiate them either.
However, internally the changes are total. What I liked the most in the test that I was able to do after the Apple Event is the haptic feedback that occurs on the pen when we press the holding part of the device. It is done in an analogous way to how we change the transparency mode on the AirPods Pro, for example: by pressing with the thumb and index fingers.
Immediately, we see a return in the form of vibration that tricks our sense of touch and makes it seem like we can “squeeze” the body of the Apple Pencil, as if it could be pinched. Very similar to the “click” sensation on a trackpad with Force Touch.
With this touch, we are presented with a series of tools that surround the tip of our Apple Pencil and allow us to select them comfortably without getting lost in the application interface. I had the opportunity to speak with Ignasi Monreal, an artist from Barcelona who also attended the event about this. In his opinion, having the interface so conveniently available could improve the workflow by not losing focus on it.
Artist Ignasi Monreal highlights the Apple Pencil Pro as a creative tool: “It no longer limits you to one place like with traditional drawing: you can create anywhere, even on a plane”
Ignasi took the opposite path to other artists: he started digitally and has also ended up doing things physically. However, he is a defender of these tools and believes that the design with the possibilities of the Apple Pencil Pro allows your work to go even further. by having more creation tools, anywhere. But with the ease of the physical experience that, thanks to the gyroscopes and new sensitivity of the Apple Pencil Pro, the new device offers us.
During the time that I have been able to test the Apple Pencil Pro, the learning curve With the touch controls it has been very fast: it is comfortable in the hand, well balanced, familiar if we have already used a previous generation and tremendously precise – even more so than the previous generation.
New Magic Keyboard, new design and lower weight
I love writing, I have to do it for work and I consider the Magic Keyboard (2020) to be one of the best things that happened to the iPad Pro. In this new generation, finally we can have it in new materialslike aluminum – which gives it a more premium feel.
The keys remain low travel but they have a comfortable hit at the end of the press, it also maintains the usual size in Apple products and includes a new row of function keys for greater comfort in applications.
The very comfortable USB-C connector is still present which is integrated into the lower hinge, and maintains the same angle as the model we already know. The trackpad is now more precise, much closer to what we know on a MacBook since it includes haptic feedback to simulate the “click” – I think the improvement in the trackpad is clearly what I liked the most (especially with the new material).
Is found in two colors, black and white: Personally, my favorite of this generation is the black aluminum version, which looks spectacular with the new design of the iPad Pro M4 and gives it a futuristic tool look that we haven’t seen on an iPad for a long time. Very soon, in the detailed analysis, I will tell you what it is like to use it on a day-to-day basis.
