As rumor had it, the new tenth-generation iPad announced yesterday lacks a headphone jack, often referred to as a headphone jack. After its critical removal on the iPhone 7 in 2016, the 3.5mm connector is now disappearing from the entire iPad range. Well almost.
The end of the jack
Indeed, the ninth-generation entry-level iPad, which Apple continues to sell but more expensive, is now the only tablet in Apple’s iPad line to feature the 3.5mm audio connector. Other models, including the iPad mini 6, iPad Air 5, iPad Pro M2, and new iPad 10, only have a USB-C input port.
For the record, Apple gradually removed the headphone jack from its iPhones, then from the iPad Pro, iPad Air and iPad mini, in that order. When the iPad 9 is withdrawn from sale (probably next year), only Macs will offer the famous jack.
A fallback solution
If you have a good “old” wired headset and you have a recent iPad, know that all is not lost. There are USB-C to 3.5 mm jack or Lightning to 3.5 mm jack adapters for less than 10 euros. A practical solution that costs much less than switching to AirPods Pro 2 for example.
