That Apple has such a well-connected ecosystem of products and services is a fundamental part of attracting millions of users. However, strangely enough, there are two widely used applications on iPhone, iPad and Mac that did not have much connection: Calendar and Reminders. Now, as suggested by Appleinsider, it could change in iOS 18 and macOS 15.
Sources familiar with the matter say that in the previous versions of these systems, which we remember will be presented on June 10 at WWDC 2024, Finally there will be a connection between reminders with date and time with calendar events. Something extremely common in many third-party calendar apps, but which is unprecedented until now in this ecosystem of native Apple apps.
‘Calendar’ and ‘Reminders’ will be understood and the AI will do the rest
Although they are two native applications, so far ‘Calendar’ and ‘Reminders’ follow their own path. The first of them, to record events in a specific time slot, as well as important dates such as birthdays, anniversaries, holidays and others. The other, more oriented to a task list, can also add dates and times to them.
The old desire that many intensive users of these applications have had for years is that there would be interaction between both and that Dated reminders could also be viewed on calendars and vice versa. Now, after the big change to ‘Reminders’ with iOS 17, it is rumored that it will finally be achieved.
It’s not that they are going to be merged into a single application, but precisely what we now long for will happen. They would still be two separate apps, but we can also add reminders from the calendar. We don’t know yet how, but we expect something similar to what we find in applications like ‘Fantastical’, specialized precisely in being a complete calendar manager with added task lists.
There is also an element above both that will say a lot about its functionality: artificial intelligence. It is an open secret that iOS 18 will integrate a lot of AI. It is not yet known exactly how, but it will have a high level of depth in the system and will affect native applications.
For now and until Apple announces it, there is nothing definitive. However, reputable sources are behind this information. Therefore, it will be a matter of waiting for the curtain to rise on June 10 and, then yes, we will know how many changes await the new operating systems in general and these two applications in particular.
